MOUNTAIN VIEW CD REVIEW.
I just finished listening to Paul Miles’ latest CD, Mountain View. This is yet another outstanding release by the Detroit, Michigan Bluesman that hits all the high points that I’ve come to expect from Paul.
Paul Miles is an instantly recognizable “Blues” artist who although firmly rooted in the Blues, has influences that are beautifully varied and steeped in a myriad of classic genres of music – many of which are on display here again on his latest CD.
The CD opens with the title track, “Mountain View”, an inspired homage that embraces elements of Paul’s new home and life in Switzerland and then continues with 11 more excellent songs.
“Who Do You Want” is one of those great “cruise-y”, yet laid-back songs that is pure Paul Miles… No one else writes or performs like this and I love it… nice slide, cool chord changes, and killer vibe! “She’s My Wife” has an almost old-school Santana feel, of course, performed solo on an acoustic guitar, as only Paul can deliver. “Butterfly” renders an amazingly intimate lyrical, vocal and instrumental performance that is once again a pure, original Paul Miles instant classic.
The CD closes with “Set Me Free”, a song that is categorically Blues, but with a flavor that is distinctly his own. I love Paul’s message here, which incorporates some of his deep musical influences, including a bit of a Jimi Hendrix vibe in the lyrics, which cut through the BS that sometimes permeates this world, and encouraging us all to be our real, true selves.
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to all the songs on this CD, and can attest that the 12 songs on Mountain View comprise another fine collection by Paul Miles that is worthy of many, many listens!
